Make a garment label an entry point to care instructions, product information and service. Textile construction and washing conditions determine whether the digital touchpoint remains useful after the first wear.

Choose the NFC tag for your product

Match the carrier to care information or secure tag verification, then validate the complete textile label under the garment’s permitted washing and care conditions.

NFC tag preference

Choose the verification method for your pilot. Metal placement and packaging still need separate testing.

NTAG215

Ordinary NFC for information access

NTAG215 can open composition, care and product information supplied by the brand. A static link is suitable for access, but does not provide a new cryptographic tag response.

NTAG424 DNA / EM4425

Secure NFC for tag verification

Use configured NTAG424 DNA or EM4425 with matching backend verification when dynamic evidence is required. A secure result does not independently certify fibre composition or sustainability claims.

Carrier design near metal

Metallic thread, reflective layers and nearby fasteners may require relocation or a purpose-designed carrier. On-metal suitability and cryptographic capability are separate choices; assess the actual textile construction.

Packaging and operating limits

Test washing, drying, permitted ironing, flexing and skin-contact requirements on the finished label. A removable hangtag needs a separate identity association if services must continue after it is discarded.

From the care label to the next use

  1. 01

    Test and associate the label

Trial the garment label through care cycles and define the link between style, size and individual item.

  2. 02

    Open the right product content

Demonstrate care information on target phones. Use a configured secure chip if dynamic tag authentication is required.

  3. 03

    Plan repair or take-back records

Agree which staff or partners maintain service events, and what happens when a label is removed or damaged.

Design for washing and everyday wear

Evaluate a neck, sleeve or care-label location with the garment manufacturer. Test the complete sewn or bonded label for washing, drying, ironing where relevant, bending and skin contact requirements. A working loose inlay is not evidence of a durable garment label.

Choose the evidence required

NTAG215 or a static QR link can open care instructions and a product page. They do not provide fresh cryptographic authentication. Use an appropriately configured secure chip when the project requires a dynamic tag check, and explain the result accurately.

A hangtag is convenient during sale but is often removed. If the service journey continues after purchase, plan a durable carrier and the relationship between the removable label and the garment.

Connect style, item and service records

Keep style, size, colour and individual identifiers distinct. Define how the production or ERP process associates the label with the correct item and how corrections are approved. Plan repair and take-back events only when staff and partner systems can maintain them.

Agree pilot acceptance before production

Trial one fabric and label construction. Check scan instructions on a worn garment, phone coverage and reading after care cycles. Include damaged labels, returns and repaired items; tag verification alone does not establish fibre composition, sustainability claims or eligibility for a refund.

NFC pilot for apparel

Describe your product, packaging material, intended scan or verification result, target market and expected pilot scope. The team can then assess placement, data and integration requirements.
